Sinclair\, Celys S. Black\, and Melody Volt Paradisco\, are bringing high-energy performances\, fierce dancing\, and all the glittery magic you’ve been missing. Come shake off the winter blues\, raise a glass with friends old and new\, and help us welcome the year ahead with love\, resilience\, and a whole lot of drag excellence. \nDrag has a rich cultural history that spans across decades\, it has transformed from a common theatre practice to a political stand against fixed roles of gender and sexuality. Whilst drag has maintained a powerful presence in entertainment\, it also deserves recognition for being an example of an expressive and empowering art form. It is a form of performance and art and should be considered as such. It combines skills of fashion and facial/bodily metamorphosis to create the illusion of a gender. Drag queens exude femininity and female empowerment through their appearance. Ultimately\, drag is about becoming a whole new person\, freed by concepts of gender and sexuality. Well\, wear it and strut your stuff in our Ugly Sweater Parade! Come for the cheer\, stay for the queer because it’s the most wonderful time of the year! \nAs federal cuts place added pressure on local food banks\, Snovalley Pride is answering the call to care for our community. Together\, we’ll help fill pantry shelves and hearts. River is an amazing teacher and we are thrilled to host her for her third presentation at Miller’s! We create a safe and welcoming container for you to connect with our community\, learn some new information\, and ask any questions you might have. \n\nIn this third gathering we will discuss:\nIntersectionality & Where You Fit\nAs we come to understand intersecting identities how do we translate that into allowing others to show up as their whole selves in day to day life? What is power and privilege and how can we use it to leverage ourselves against oppression? \nAllyship Everywhere\nOppression is a systemic issue that also takes root in our everyday lives. Learn where and when you can incorporate more accessibility and inclusion in your everyday practices. Test out your allyship muscles in real time as we work through active ally scenarios as a group. \nGoals\n•Discuss the importance of intersectionality as it relates to creating more inclusive spaces.\n•Cultivate an understanding of the overlap between privilege and allyship and how to utilize privilege effectively to best support marginalized people. \nDuring our presentation from the GSBA\, the floor will be open for you to ask questions to gain a better understanding of these topics. Learn how commonly perpetuated stereotypes and turns of phrase can be deeply harmful\, even when they seem innocuous to the average person. \nGoals\n-Develop an understanding of how microaggressions contribute to the oppression of marginalized people.\n-Learn to readily identify different types of microaggressions and how to call them out in your day to day life. \nAfter our presentation from the GSBA\, the floor will be open for you to ask questions to gain a better understanding of these topics.
