SUMMARY:Massy Ferguson - No Cover
DESCRIPTION:Come join us at Miller’s on July 3rd to officially kick off Carnation’s 4th of July celebration!! \nFor more than a dozen years\, Massy Ferguson have proudly planted their boots on both sides of the country-rock divide\, carving out their own brand of amplified Americana along the way. Based in Seattle\, they’ve become international torchbearers of a sound that’s distinctly American\, with a touring history that spans nine different countries. On their fifth album\, Great Divides\, they double down on their rock & roll roots\, mixing bar-band twang with raw\, guitar-driven bang. \nGluing those sounds together is the songwriting partnership of bass-playing front man Ethan Anderson and guitarist Adam Monda\, whose songs spin stories of small-town adolescence\, big-city adulthood\, and the long miles of highway that stretch between. \nSponsored by the Carnation 4th of July committee. \nNO COVER!

SUMMARY:Warren Dunes with Cumulus
DESCRIPTION:Warren Dunes plays PNW Tropicalia and is led by keyboardist/vocalist Julia Massey. Their unique style of Beach Rock is born from the cold waters and grey sky beaches of the Salish Sea\, and is highlighted by Massey’s double keyboards and crystalline voice soaring over chiming guitars and thundering drums from husband Jared Cortese and his brother Dominic Cortese.  A long-time favorite in Seattle\, Massey’s newest project has gained broader attention with performances at festivals around the PNW including Treefort Music Fest\, and notable performances at Seattle’s Zoo Tunes and the historic Neptune Theater. Most recently their debut LP “Get Well Soon” was voted KEXP’s #20 album of 2021. Warren Dunes (warrendunesband.com) \nCumulus is the creative outlet for musician Alexandra Lockhart\, who’s past two albums have won wide ranging praise from the likes of Stereogum\, Interview\, Consequence\, PASTE\, KEXP\, Brooklyn Vegan\, Seattle Weekly\, The Stranger\, and NPR Music’s All Songs Considered who lauded the “straight ahead pop” found on her most recent album Comfort World. In tandem with the album announcement\, Cumulus is also sharing the new single “Sunbeam\,” a warm and inviting blanket of lush guitar tones that builds into a bombastic and bittersweet observance of the obstacles we can put ourselves through when we don’t feel fully deserving of love. It’s a mourning of the time wasted dwelling on the past\, with an appreciation of how beautiful it is to be fully vulnerable and open to another human. Cumulus (cumulussongs.com) \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. Tickets purchased for a specific event cannot be transferred to a different event. \nBeer\, wine\, and non-alcoholic beverages available.  Food can be brought in from area restaurants.  No outside drinks please. \nAll ages.

SUMMARY:Hi Crime with Brittany Davis
DESCRIPTION:Hi Crime is a Seattle-based indie-pop group that began as a recording project between songwriters Brielle Rutledge and Mitch Etter. The duo met in the summer of 2015 and quickly began work on what would become their first release. The Foreign Hours EP was written\, recorded\, and mixed entirely in the duo’s bedrooms over the fall months while Rutledge finished college\, commuting back every few weeks to record. \nThe EP earned attention from KEXP\, and other NW media outlets\, inspiring the duo to expand to a four-piece and begin performing live. The expanded lineup provided a burst of new energy\, propelling the band into work for their debut full-length album\, The Kids Still Got It\, released on June 29\, 2018. Since the album release\, Hi Crime has been performing new music and growing its audience with regular live shows across the Pacific Northwest\, in addition to occasional touring. \nBrittany Davis has shared “I Choose To Live” today\, a unifying and empathetic call-to-action that shines a light on communities most disproportionately affected by the adversities of the past two years. Purging this pandemic-era pain as they rhyme deftly over soul/R&B grooves\, the Seattle-based Davis brings a truly fresh perspective to issues most prevalent among the marginalized; drawing from their experiences as a musician and a non-binary\, African-American\, blind person who has dealt firsthand with homelessness\, bullying and systemic racism. “I Choose To Live” is the title track from Brittany Davis’ debut EP – produced/engineered by Davis and Seattle legend Josh Evans (Pearl Jam\, Soundgarden\, Brandi Carlile). \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled. \nAll ages.

SUMMARY:Carina Lewis with Beth Whitney
DESCRIPTION:Through sultry vocal melodies\, Carina Lewis layers euphoric instrumentation that ruminates atop heartbeat grooves and sparingly spread electronic loops to deliver weighted\, textured tracks that tug at the threads of your most human elements. Her vocal melodies luxuriate through perfectly emoted\, plainspoken lyrics; her vulnerability\, an instrument through which she claims forgiveness from her past\, and command over her present. \nFrom the most intimate corners of jaded nostalgia\, Lewis’ musical penchant is wide and refined\, an offering to a lifetime well beyond her years. Her tracks have effortless versatility\, from her RnB pop-influenced single\, Cheating Lips\, which dismisses a toxic ex through a poppy electronic dance groove outro\, to her brooding\, soft-edged and pleading mother’s lullaby\, Baby Boy.  The music of Carina Lewis is as much a soundtrack to a first love lost\, as it is a commiserating comfort at a lonely barstool\, and a triumphant ballad of gritty\, perfect self-reclamation. \nFrom the deep woods of the Pacific Northwest\, Beth Whitney emerges with a stunning follow up to The Wild Unrest. The album was released in 2021 with Tone Tree Music\, has been featured in publications such as American Songwriter and AudioFemme\, and has reached over 2 million streams on Apple Music.  Beth Whitney (bethwhitneymusic.com) \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. SUMMARY:Willow and Wood with The Black Feathers
DESCRIPTION:Willow and Wood is Willow Scrivner and Kevin Wood\, a married couple who create a sonic landscape of both solitude and beauty\, hovering between the warmth of Americana and the cool darkness of dream pop. The band’s music is transcendent: both a study of the geography of place\, and the constant search for home. Their songs ache with both hope and a broken heart. Those contradictions are at the core of what makes the band so special. Falling somewhere between indie pop and indie folk\, they have created a sound rooted in a West Coast reverb-drenched loneliness\, dripping with southern humidity and darkness – and determined to find the magic. \nThe Black Feathers\, made up of Ray Hughes and Sian Chandler first became aware of the magic between them while collaborating on several musical projects\, becoming The Black Feathers and life partners in 2012. Americana\, Folk\, and Acoustic Indie Rock sensibilities coexist comfortably in their musical world\, with Hughes’ guitar work buoying the kind of harmonies often only heard in family bands. Their music quickly draws the interest of listeners\, but it is the stage chemistry that will keep them riveted. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled. \nAll ages.

SUMMARY:Small Paul
DESCRIPTION:Small Paul was born in a Seattle basement In the early days of COVID as a happy accident between housemates Kevin Murphy from The Moondoggies\, Chris King and Malcolm Roberts from Chris King & The Gutterballs with Seth McDonald from All Star Opera. \nWhat started out as casual music chairs between friends overtime blossomed into a four headed creative monster. During the long strange days of quarantine the project’s ease and freedom allowed for productive hours of symbiotic collaboration and summoning songs for strange times. \nThe Four songs from Small Paul’s debut “Strangeland” reflect ideas of traveling forward\, movement and self reflection. The images of the road that rolls under us as we push ahead through grief\,change\,isolation\, and the passing of time and people. \nThe EP at its core captures the band playing together live.Kevin and Chris trade lead vocal and drum/guitar duties\, with Malcolm contributing backing vocals for Small Paul’s three part harmonies as well as bass and Seth coloring the songs with keys. \n‘Strangeland’ EP\, is mixed by Seattle veteran\, Erik Blood (Shabazz Palaces\, The Moondoggies)\, and recorded by Bradford Button at Barndoor studio. The band is currently working on their debut full length Prodyced by Erik Blood\, album set to release sometime in 2023. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled. \nAll ages.

SUMMARY:Electric Bonsai Band\, Jo Miller with special guest Orville Johnson\, and Greg Scott
DESCRIPTION:Electric Bonsai Band is neither electric nor a band…it’s actually singer/songwriter Andrew Ratshin\, and his acoustic guitar. Best known as a member of\, and principal songwriter for\, the group Uncle Bonsai\, Andrew has released five solo albums of original material and been included on a number of compilation projects. \nWith the release of his debut recording\, “I Am Joe’s Eyes”\, Andrew began headlining at clubs and festivals across North America; with his live release\, “20 Seconds Of Pleasure” (a collection of 20-second and 40-second songs) and the critically acclaimed\, “But I’m Happy Now”\, Andrew established himself as “one of the premier songwriters of his generation” (The Maverick Report). The release of “Lounging In The Belly Of The Beast” had Sing Out magazine proclaiming Andrew “an absolute original” and say that “there’s more than enough brilliance here to entice and seduce open minded listeners who appreciate exceptionally well written songs.” \nIn addition to his solo performances\, Andrew continues to perform with Uncle Bonsai. The group recently premiered Andrew’s brand new\, 25-song song cycle\, “Seven Sins\, Seven Wonders\, Seven Dwarfs”\, and Andrew has begun recording his sixth Electric Bonsai Band release\, “The Other Glass” \nJo Miller (w/special guest Orville Johnson). Back in the “Old Days” (1980’s to 2006) Jo Milla’ was a killa’! At least if your musical tastes leaned toward Western Roots. She was the lead singer\, writer and frontman for the legendary Cowgirl band\, Ranch Romance\, who was picked up as an opener for kd Lang touring the US and Canada. Often featured on Prairie Home Companion as well as many notable festivals and concert venues Ranch Romance\, in their spangled cowgirl duds\, were always a favorite. Jo Miller and Her Burly Roughnecks hit the scene in ‘99. That was a jumpin band adored by the swing dance set\, the pompadoured Rockabillies and Honky Tonk mavens. Seattle’s notorious roadhouse\, “The Little Red Hen”\, became home until the nights got too long\, the money too short and the irreplaceable slap bassist moved to New York. For the last many years Jo has redirected her attention to the craft of carpentry and building odd little structures. On occasion she can be seen on stage telling “true stories” from her unfinished memoir “Never Holler Whoa At A Horserace”. \nGreg Scott\, In the old days when singer-songwriters ruled the Northwest Folklife Festival\, Greg Scott was one that audiences made sure to seek out. With songs full of wry wit and tenderhearted longing\, Greg accompanies his distinctive baritone voice with skillful guitar in a variety of styles. “Moonlight Ain’t No Use To Me”\, “Too Long A Time”\, and “Work For The County” are just a few of his popular originals. SUMMARY:Arran Fagan and John Lensing
DESCRIPTION:Arran Fagan has earned praise for his introspective lyrics and vivid storytelling\, Portland-based folk artist Arran Fagan has garnered a following in his native Oregon with his uncanny ability to weave the personal and universal. After getting his start in the grassroots music scene of Southern Oregon\, Arran has spent the greater part of his life pursuing music\, creating wistful and evocative songs that explore themes that connect us all—loss\, addiction\, change\, and the endless passage of time. \nJohn Lensing started out as a street performer\, writing songs and driving around the US to play them for people. Slowly\, this led to playing more proper shows\, but the goal has always been the same. to make people care — about others\, themselves\, and things that sometimes hurt to care about. His genre-blurring songwriting has brought him on tours all across North America and Europe. Most notably playing a showcase at the Sommer in Altona festival (Hamburg)\, and being named “an artist to watch” by No Depression. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled. \nAll ages. \n  \n
