SUMMARY:Nathaniel Talbot Trio with Martha Scanlan and Jon Neufeld
DESCRIPTION:Nathaniel Talbot’s music has dirt under its fingernails\, the product of decades of hard work and crafting – retuning\, replanting\, and retelling. The result is true American roots music that combines the soulful edge of tradition with the Pacific Northwest’s legacy of freedom and innovation. \n “Talbot pushes our understanding of ourselves through the intensity of his songcraft. Even the instrumental tracks are enough to make you stop what you’re doing and listen.” – No Depression    \nMartha Scanlan is an award-winning songwriter based in western Montana. Her writing comes out of some of the deepest roots of Americana\, winding between the mountains of East Tennessee and some of Montana’s most remote landscapes including a 120 year old cattle ranch where she spent years living and working. She appeared on TBone Burnette’s Cold Mountain soundtrack with former bandmates Reeltime Travelers. Her songs have been covered by Sarah Jarosz\, Andrew Marlin\, Amy Helm and Solas and have found their way into books by celebrated American authors Rick Bass and Joyce Carol Oates. \nJon Neufeld lives in Portland\, Oregon and plays with a variety of musicians there including longtime bands Jackstraw (bluegrass) and The Kung Pow Chickens (Gypsie jazz). Well known for his innovative guitar playing\, he is also a multi-intrumentalist\, producer and mastering engineer. He has appeared on The Tonight Show and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert with his former band Black Prairie and toured Europe in an impossibly small rental car with famed Portland Indie band Dolorean. He recently co- produced and engineered Smithsonian Folkways Roll Columbia: Woody Guthrie’s 26 Northwest Songs.  \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. Tickets purchased for a specific event cannot be transferred to a different event. \nBeer\, wine\, and non-alcoholic beverages available.  Food can be brought in from area restaurants.  No outside drinks please. \nAll ages.

SUMMARY:FREE Community Talk with Q&A
DESCRIPTION:Snovalley Pride is thrilled to partner with the GSBA (Greater Seattle Business Alliance) for this FREE Community Education series. Gather with like-minded members of our Valley community to learn ways you can be the best Ally possible! River is an amazing teacher and we are thrilled to host her for her third presentation at Miller’s! We create a safe and welcoming container for you to connect with our community\, learn some new information\, and ask any questions you might have. \n\nIn this third gathering we will discuss:\nIntersectionality & Where You Fit\nAs we come to understand intersecting identities how do we translate that into allowing others to show up as their whole selves in day to day life? What is power and privilege and how can we use it to leverage ourselves against oppression? \nAllyship Everywhere\nOppression is a systemic issue that also takes root in our everyday lives. Learn where and when you can incorporate more accessibility and inclusion in your everyday practices. Test out your allyship muscles in real time as we work through active ally scenarios as a group. \nGoals\n•Discuss the importance of intersectionality as it relates to creating more inclusive spaces.\n•Cultivate an understanding of the overlap between privilege and allyship and how to utilize privilege effectively to best support marginalized people. \nDuring our presentation from the GSBA\, the floor will be open for you to ask questions to gain a better understanding of these topics. Gather with like-minded people in our Valley community\, make new friends\, and feel supported as we gain a deeper understanding of these topics together. \n\nThis event is FREE to the public because of the generous donations we have received from our community.\nDoors open at 6:45pm. SUMMARY:Kendl Winter and John Riziki - Record Release
DESCRIPTION:Primarily known as one half of the Americana duo The Lowest Pair\, Kendl is also a prolific collaborator and solo artist.  Arkansas born\, Winter honed her distinctive blend of country\, bluegrass\, and lo-fi indie folk in the late 2000s as a member of folk-punk band the Pasties\, followed by stints throughout the next decade as part of bands like bluegrass quartet Blackberry Bushes\, Americana duo Southern Skies\, indie rock outfit It’s All Gotta Go\, and the afore mentioned duo The Lowest Pair. A multi-instrumentalist best known for her banjo playing\, Winter has recorded several well-received solo albums for Olympia’s K Records\, including 2013’s “It Can Be Done!”\, before joining the roster of Team Love Records for 2018’s “Stumbler’s Business”. \nKendl Winter’s upcoming album “Banjo Mantras” began as a way to connect with her fans and peers by sharing her daily melodic meditations and explorations on the clawhammer banjo.  Kendl found that the daily practice of creating and sharing her “mantras” led to further inspiration and was moved to expand upon these ideas and ultimately record them. \n  \n John Riziki is a singer-songwriter from Accra\, Ghana living in Seattle\, WA. John immigrated to the USA with his family at just 5 years old. Growing up in different cultures gave John a unique perspective to share. First writing songs as a teenager to better navigate and reflect on his experiences. John is now releasing his music into the world\, sharing the stories and moments that shaped him\, in hopes that everyone can relate them to their own. \nAll ages.

SUMMARY:Zan Fiskum (full band) with special guest Ollella
DESCRIPTION:Zan Fiskum was raised in the small town of Maple Valley\, WA where she spent most of her time either running barefoot in the forest or volunteering with her family at a local dinner theater\, both of which inspired her to make the music she is today. Her angelic voice soars over her soulful and ethereal storytelling. Reminiscent of artists Lana Del Ray and Brandi Carlile\, she blends the lines between indie/pop and americana/folk as she writes about childhood trauma\, the intricacies of family dynamics\, connection to the natural world as well as a fan-favorite: love. \nOLLELLA’s career as a musician started early\, when she sang before she could talk.  She has since created a life as a multidisciplinary artist as an indie-folk cellist\, vocalist\, and songwriter. Trained as a classical cellist since the age of nine\, the Seattle musician merges her technical background with authoritative vocals\, live-looping\, and improvisation. Described as “really outstanding” by NPR Music’s Bob Boilen and “so tastefully done” by Michelle Zauner (AKA Japanese Breakfast)\, Ollella blends the acoustic with the contemporary\, folk with pop\, and tenacity with softness. \nAll ages.

SUMMARY:National Guitar - A Tribute to Paul Simon w/ Jenner Fox Band
DESCRIPTION:NATIONAL GUITAR is a Paul Simon tribute band featuring Pacific Northwest all stars musicians from Polecat\, Petty or Not\, Skillethead\, and the Jenner Fox Band. The ensemble was formed on a fateful election night when they found themselves listening to “American Tune” and discovered a mutual reverence for Paul Simon. National Guitar performs a range of Simon’s music from Garfunkle to Graceland and everywhere in between. Come prepared to sing along\, groove\, and celebrate some of the finest music from a true American original. \nThe five-piece band features piano\, organ\, electric guitar\, bass\, dobro\, acoustic guitar\, and layered vocal harmony. With decades of arranging and touring under their belts\, National Guitar brings new life to Simon’s beloved catalog. \nJENNER FOX BAND  \nThere is something that happens inside a good song. A tootsie roll can take you back to your elementary school playground; a list of baby names becomes a prayer; the voice of a toothless refrigerator man reminds you to say “I love you.” Jenner Fox tells the stories of people and places with unparalleled compassion and respect. His artful tone\, poetry\, and fluency on his guitar do something only the brave ones do: let us in. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. SUMMARY:Sera Cahoone with guest Betsy Olson
DESCRIPTION:Sera Cahoone is a long way from home. Growing up the daughter of a dynamite salesman in the Colorado foothills\, she got her start on the drums at 11. A year later\, her skills had become so promising\, her mom started taking her to dive bars to sit in with the scruffy old bluesmen. By the time she even picked up a guitar\, she had been so shaped by these things – the dynamite\, the blues\, the woods and the hills – it’s no surprise she went on to earn a reputation as one of the strongest songwriters in Seattle’s ever-vibrant Americana scene. \nShe moved north in 1998 to open a snowboard/skateboard shop but quickly found herself backing lo-fi outfit Carissa’s Weird on drums. Since that band split in ‘03\, she’s lent her sticks to folks as variant as Carolina rockers Band of Horses\, Seattle blues chick Betsy Olson\, and singer-songwriter Patrick Park. But in 2006 she struck out on her own with a self-titled debut which immediately scored praise from local and national tastemakers alike. \nBetsy Olson is a blues guitarist and vocalist originally from Montana but currently based in Seattle. From the early blues legacies to Jimi Hendrix\, Olson imbues her own modern take\, owning her own Lonely Woman Blues. Her all-women\, blues and rock band\, The Betsy Olson Band\, reminds listeners that women were the first people to record the blues and is evocative of its early revolutionaries. Olson has been featured on recordings with Sera Cahoone\, Moe Provencher\, Rebecca Young among others. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless the show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from the purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. Tickets purchased for a specific event cannot be transferred to a different event. \nBeer\, wine\, and non-alcoholic beverages are available.  Food can be brought in from area restaurants.  No outside drinks please. \n

SUMMARY:The Staxx Brothers
DESCRIPTION:The Staxx Brothers are a high energy American band\, hailing from Seattle\, WA. These brothers and sisters have created a legacy in this century\, with 100s of amazing live shows and well earned reputation for delivering albums that only get better with time. \nIt all starts with great songs. Tunes like “Sugarwalls” and “Black & Mild” and “Keep The Motor Runnin'” trick musicians and listeners alike into considering them sleek but simple vehicles. That is until they look under the hood and find songs super charged with subtle shifts of time\, clever chord changes\, and counterpoint that is just as Mozart as Motown. \nBut then there is the sound. Music critic Dennis Cook called it\, “Hard Ass Soul”. \nIt’s quite simply the most danceable and hip shaking brand of rock & roll to hit US streets since Motown left the Motor City. \nWhere modern Rock has most often forgotten its Roll\, The Staxx Brothers make it back to the juke joint\, and take you back to the black church\, dragging modern rock by its collar right back to its birthright – with an epic flare that matches any of the classics. \nBut don’t take my word for it. Listen to any of the albums. And if you don’t dance to “Eko Rock” contact a physician immediately. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. SUMMARY:Massy Ferguson
DESCRIPTION:For more than a dozen years\, Massy Ferguson have proudly planted their boots on both sides of the country-rock divide\, carving out their own brand of amplified Americana along the way. Based in Seattle\, they’ve become international torchbearers of a sound that’s distinctly American\, with a touring history that spans nine different countries. On their fifth album\, Great Divides\, they double down on their rock & roll roots\, mixing bar-band twang with raw\, guitar-driven bang. \nGluing those sounds together is the songwriting partnership of bass-playing front man Ethan Anderson and guitarist Adam Monda\, whose songs spin stories of small-town adolescence\, big-city adulthood\, and the long miles of highway that stretch between. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. SUMMARY:Chris Pureka with Lo Pony
DESCRIPTION:It’s rare for an artist to bridge the divide between critical acclaim and dedicated fan engagement. Chris Pureka is a Portland-based singer-songwriter whose body of work has resonated deeply with these seemingly disparate milieus. Their music has straddled the folk\, americana and indie rock genres over the course of their 20-year career\, and over that time\, their bold vulnerability in processing the intimacies of life in song has struck a chord with those listeners who crave authenticity and depth. \nChris’s elegant emotionality as a vocalist and their flair as a lyricist have garnered them favorable comparisons to Chan Marshall\, Bruce Springsteen\, and Patty Griffin. Over many years of touring on both sides of the Atlantic\, they have shared the stage with such diverse and esteemed artists as The Lumineers\, Gregory Alan Isakov\, The Cowboy Junkies\, Haley Heynderickx\, and Ani DiFranco. \nLo Pony is a queer folk group based in Portland. Their sound is composed of delicate harmonies discussing loss\, nostalgia\, and a slow appreciation for the beauty of everyday life. Lo Pony’s music stems from years of steadfast friendship since meeting in college in 2008. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless the show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from the purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. DESCRIPTION:Annie-J delivers a close and personal blend of retro soul and modern pop. Her vocal mastery and presence as a performer make for a playful and moving display that pays homage to acts like Dusty Springfield\, Whitney Houston\, Janelle Monae\, and Solange. At times heartfelt and reserved\, at times powerful and hard-hitting\, Annie J’s sparkling voice and colorful style are uniquely hers. \nSeattle songwriter Debbie Miller is like a tantalizing book of short stories. In fact\, there are few musicians who work as diligently as she to be as narratively engaging. You might find yourself laughing\, then crying\, then laughing again – sometimes all in the same song. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless the show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from the purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. SUMMARY:Buffalo Rose with Brittany Collins
DESCRIPTION:Buffalo Rose is a charismatic six-piece modern folk/Americana band from Pittsburgh\, PA. They take the singer-songwriter tradition to a new level by crafting original songs which are emotive\, meticulously arranged\, and inspired by a world of idiosyncratic influences that never let a dull or predictable moment creep in. \nThe band’s most recent release Again\, Again\, Again has brought forth a shimmering and sophisticated sound to their well-crafted songs.  A follow up to their 2022 EP Rabbit\, a project created in collaboration with Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award recipient Tom Paxton\, they released two records last year and show no signs of slowing down. Their 2018 debut album\, The Soil and the Seed\, established them as a vocal\, instrumental\, and creative force. Since then\, Buffalo Rose has dropped two EPs\, 2019’s Big Stampede and 2020’s Borrowed and Blue\, opened for the Wood Brothers\, Mipso\, Pokey LaFarge\, Tyler Childers\, Infamous Stringdusters\, and shared a festival stage with the legendary Sam Bush. \nSoulful Americana artist Brittany Collins writes songs that are equal parts heartbreaking and hopeful. Her hauntingly powerful voice evokes imagery of the rugged mountainous landscape where she was raised and still lives in the Pacific Northwest. Her performance will hit you like a lightning bolt and leave you begging for more. \n*Tickets are nonrefundable\, unless the show is cancelled\, or rescheduled.  If you cannot attend a show\, tickets can be transferred from the purchaser to another individual\, or individuals. SUMMARY:Anna Tivel with special guest Nathaniel Talbot
DESCRIPTION:Oregon-based songwriter Anna Tivel’s newest album ‘Outsiders’ starts with a lens so wide we’ve left the planet to look back from a great distance at the turmoil and beauty of our shared humanity. From there the lens pulls close and unfolds in a gripping collection of stories so often ignored. Tivel’s flawed and honest characters move through a landscape of hurt and loss\, of small triumph and big love. In eleven songs full of recognition\, veracity\, and hope\, Tivel’s watchful and empathetic eye details the undeniable ache of living. \nNathaniel Talbot’s music has dirt under its fingernails\, the product of decades of hard work and crafting – retuning\, replanting\, and retelling. The result is true American roots music that combines the soulful edge of tradition with the Pacific Northwest’s legacy of freedom and innovation. \nAll ages.
