DESCRIPTION:Electric Bonsai Band is neither electric nor a band…it’s actually singer/songwriter Andrew Ratshin\, and his acoustic guitar. Best known as a member of\, and principal songwriter for\, the group Uncle Bonsai\, Andrew has released five solo albums of original material and been included on a number of compilation projects. \nWith the release of his debut recording\, “I Am Joe’s Eyes”\, Andrew began headlining at clubs and festivals across North America; with his live release\, “20 Seconds Of Pleasure” (a collection of 20-second and 40-second songs) and the critically acclaimed\, “But I’m Happy Now”\, Andrew established himself as “one of the premier songwriters of his generation” (The Maverick Report). The release of “Lounging In The Belly Of The Beast” had Sing Out magazine proclaiming Andrew “an absolute original” and say that “there’s more than enough brilliance here to entice and seduce open minded listeners who appreciate exceptionally well written songs.” \nIn addition to his solo performances\, Andrew continues to perform with Uncle Bonsai. The group recently premiered Andrew’s brand new\, 25-song song cycle\, “Seven Sins\, Seven Wonders\, Seven Dwarfs”\, and Andrew has begun recording his sixth Electric Bonsai Band release\, “The Other Glass” \nJo Miller (w/special guest Orville Johnson). Back in the “Old Days” (1980’s to 2006) Jo Milla’ was a killa’! At least if your musical tastes leaned toward Western Roots. She was the lead singer\, writer and frontman for the legendary Cowgirl band\, Ranch Romance\, who was picked up as an opener for kd Lang touring the US and Canada. Often featured on Prairie Home Companion as well as many notable festivals and concert venues Ranch Romance\, in their spangled cowgirl duds\, were always a favorite. Jo Miller and Her Burly Roughnecks hit the scene in ‘99. That was a jumpin band adored by the swing dance set\, the pompadoured Rockabillies and Honky Tonk mavens. Seattle’s notorious roadhouse\, “The Little Red Hen”\, became home until the nights got too long\, the money too short and the irreplaceable slap bassist moved to New York. For the last many years Jo has redirected her attention to the craft of carpentry and building odd little structures. On occasion she can be seen on stage telling “true stories” from her unfinished memoir “Never Holler Whoa At A Horserace”. \nGreg Scott\, In the old days when singer-songwriters ruled the Northwest Folklife Festival\, Greg Scott was one that audiences made sure to seek out. With songs full of wry wit and tenderhearted longing\, Greg accompanies his distinctive baritone voice with skillful guitar in a variety of styles. “Moonlight Ain’t No Use To Me”\, “Too Long A Time”\, and “Work For The County” are just a few of his popular originals. Of late\, Greg has been working a bit under the radar\, with a composing group consisting of crackerjack musicians Julian Smedley\, Kim Scanlon\, Ben Smith\, and Libby Torrance. “The Palace Thieves“ will be releasing an album in 2024. SUMMARY:The Dusty 45s
DESCRIPTION:The Dusty 45s have inspired and fired up crowds for over two decades to the delight of fans and critics alike. With their signature style and unique sound\, the band is a consistently powerful and energetic player in the Americana field. \nThe band was founded in 1997 by charismatic singer/songwriter\, guitarist and trumpeter\, Billy Joe Huels. Huels’ songs draw inspiration from the roots of rock\, rhythm and blues\, honky-tonk and jazz. The quartet also features award winning blues guitarist\, Rod Cook\, Robin Cady (upright bass) and Kohen Burrill (Drums). \nThe Dusty 45s have toured extensively. They backed Rock and Roll Hall of famer\, Wanda Jackson many times\, including when they joined her for Adele’s “21” tour in 2011. The band has shared the stage with Brandi Carlile\, Lyle Lovett\, John Prine\, The Ventures\, Lucinda Williams\, Leann Rhymes and Dick Dale\, to name a few. In 2007\, Huels received critical acclaim for his portrayal of Buddy Holly at Seattle’s 5th Avenue Theatre. In 2019\, he interviewed PBS “Country Music “documentarian\, Ken Burns\, at Meany Hall in front of a sold-out audience. The Dusty 45s have released 7 recordings. The 2014 album\, “Live and On Fire”\, showcases the best of their bold and brassy sound recorded live at the Triple Door in Seattle\, WA. Her writing comes out of some of the deepest roots of Americana\, winding between the mountains of East Tennessee and some of Montana’s most remote landscapes including a 120 year old cattle ranch where she spent years living and working. She appeared on TBone Burnette’s Cold Mountain soundtrack with former bandmates Reeltime Travelers. Her songs have been covered by Sarah Jarosz\, Andrew Marlin\, Amy Helm and Solas and have found their way into books by celebrated American authors Rick Bass and Joyce Carol Oates. \nJon Neufeld lives in Portland\, Oregon and plays with a variety of musicians there including longtime bands Jackstraw (bluegrass) and The Kung Pow Chickens (Gypsie jazz). Well known for his innovative guitar playing\, he is also a multi-intrumentalist\, producer and mastering engineer. He has appeared on The Tonight Show and NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert with his former band Black Prairie and toured Europe in an impossibly small rental car with famed Portland Indie band Dolorean. What is power and privilege and how can we use it to leverage ourselves against oppression? \nAllyship Everywhere\nOppression is a systemic issue that also takes root in our everyday lives. Learn where and when you can incorporate more accessibility and inclusion in your everyday practices. Test out your allyship muscles in real time as we work through active ally scenarios as a group. \nGoals\n•Discuss the importance of intersectionality as it relates to creating more inclusive spaces.\n•Cultivate an understanding of the overlap between privilege and allyship and how to utilize privilege effectively to best support marginalized people. \nDuring our presentation from the GSBA\, the floor will be open for you to ask questions to gain a better understanding of these topics. SUMMARY:Kendl Winter and John Riziki - Record Release
DESCRIPTION:Primarily known as one half of the Americana duo The Lowest Pair\, Kendl is also a prolific collaborator and solo artist.  Arkansas born\, Winter honed her distinctive blend of country\, bluegrass\, and lo-fi indie folk in the late 2000s as a member of folk-punk band the Pasties\, followed by stints throughout the next decade as part of bands like bluegrass quartet Blackberry Bushes\, Americana duo Southern Skies\, indie rock outfit It’s All Gotta Go\, and the afore mentioned duo The Lowest Pair. A multi-instrumentalist best known for her banjo playing\, Winter has recorded several well-received solo albums for Olympia’s K Records\, including 2013’s “It Can Be Done!”\, before joining the roster of Team Love Records for 2018’s “Stumbler’s Business”. \nKendl Winter’s upcoming album “Banjo Mantras” began as a way to connect with her fans and peers by sharing her daily melodic meditations and explorations on the clawhammer banjo.  Kendl found that the daily practice of creating and sharing her “mantras” led to further inspiration and was moved to expand upon these ideas and ultimately record them. \n  \n John Riziki is a singer-songwriter from Accra\, Ghana living in Seattle\, WA. John immigrated to the USA with his family at just 5 years old. Growing up in different cultures gave John a unique perspective to share. First writing songs as a teenager to better navigate and reflect on his experiences. DESCRIPTION:Zan Fiskum was raised in the small town of Maple Valley\, WA where she spent most of her time either running barefoot in the forest or volunteering with her family at a local dinner theater\, both of which inspired her to make the music she is today. Her angelic voice soars over her soulful and ethereal storytelling. Reminiscent of artists Lana Del Ray and Brandi Carlile\, she blends the lines between indie/pop and americana/folk as she writes about childhood trauma\, the intricacies of family dynamics\, connection to the natural world as well as a fan-favorite: love. \nOLLELLA’s career as a musician started early\, when she sang before she could talk.  She has since created a life as a multidisciplinary artist as an indie-folk cellist\, vocalist\, and songwriter. Trained as a classical cellist since the age of nine\, the Seattle musician merges her technical background with authoritative vocals\, live-looping\, and improvisation.
